Capture & Keep redesign
Thirteen designs, numbered
Thirteen designs, numbered 1 to 13, so it is easy to say which you like. Six concepts, most in up to three versions: the round-one original, a version brought back to the live Capture & Keep colours, and a more ambitious development.
Under every design there is a notes box: mark it Love it, Maybe or Not for me, tick the parts you like, and write anything you want. Notes save as you type.
The short answer: the strongest designs are the developments. The best individual design is number 9, The Living Tree, with number 3, The Kept Book, a very close second. Review and recommendation ↓
Independent review of all thirteen
Five designs were removed on 8 October (Adam's call), so thirteen remain. I compared them from rendered screenshots at 1440 and 390 and from using the interactions.

What the review found
- Colour alone made no concept a better design. Each original-colour version fits the brand better and reads more clearly, but is less distinctive than its original.
- Pushing further worked. The development versions are the strongest designs here: The Kept Book (52/60), The Living Tree (52), The Grand Chronicle (50), Voices Through Time (49), Britain Through the Decades (47).
- Real imagery beat drawn imagery. The two strongest pages use a real historical image technique: The Living Tree's 1820s Strutt etchings and The Kept Book's wood-engraved chapter heads.
- The live green (#557267) with white text measures 4.70:1: it passes AA, but only just. If a direction keeps it for buttons, do not lighten it.
- Still shared across most designs: pricing blocks and FAQs are conventional. That is the next design job whichever direction goes forward.
- Truth checks: all eleven historical events in the Decades milestone finder are correct; every invented life, object and passage is labelled; no prices, services or testimonials were invented.
- Found on the live site while doing this (not touched): the footer says 'by video anywhere', which the business notes say was never confirmed; the pricing page lists 'cloth bound hardback, foil blocked title' and 'restored where needed' though neither is a settled inclusion; 'Level 4 Accredited Counselling training' is on the homepage but not the About page.
- Checked on every design: contrast gate 0 unreadable and 0 below AA; no sideways scroll and no script errors at desktop and phone widths; every filled button's text colour measured.
Best individual design
Number 9, The Living Tree. It is the most beautiful page on the board, the image is real rather than generated, the idea (one oak as one life, kept for the people in its shade) could only belong to Capture & Keep, and its engraved acorn is the best logo here. Number 3, The Beautifully Kept Book, is a very close second and the more complete system: if 'it sells the actual product' matters more than 'it is unforgettable', choose that one.
Strongest elements worth combining
- Number 9, The Living Tree, as the system, with number 3's finished book (and 'Make it theirs') as the 'what you end up with' moment.
- Number 8's milestone finder on the Gifts page.
- Number 13's said, written, kept drawing on How it works.
- No more than two of these in the first build.
My recommendation (the choice is yours)
Take number 9, The Living Tree, forward, with number 3's finished book as its product moment. The Grand Chronicle (number 12) is the most emotional page, but it sits furthest from the live brand and is the hardest to carry across practical pages without becoming costume.
If the aim is to stay closest to the current site, number 5 (Kept Box in the original colours) is the warmest familiar option. The decision is yours.
Decisions for you
- Which design or designs to take forward (by number).
- Real historical engravings as the main imagery (as number 9 does), with photographs of Amanda's actual work added as they exist.
- The logo: number 9's engraved acorn (recommended), or another design's mark.
- Three live-site facts to confirm: the 'by video anywhere' footer line, the hardback and photo-restoration lines on the pricing page, and the Level 4 counselling credential.
Not finished or not tested
Static design concepts, one inner page per version. Not checked: Safari, Firefox, real phones, tablet widths, screen readers. Several logos still need their lettering turned into outlines. Example lives, spoken passages and objects are invented and labelled; Amanda would write real ones. Most photographs are still licensed stock stand-ins. The chosen direction gets rebuilt in the real Astro site on a separate branch before anything goes near captureandkeep.co.uk.
